WIND POWER in the Forest Retreatwindturbine

As well as wishing to utilise all forms of renewable energy, we also want to show people what is possible with natural forms of energy.

Our forest accommodations are too far from the main property to make use of our solar and hydro systems, and in the jungle there is not enough sunlight or water to use them there. There is however, plenty of wind above the rainforest canopy.

We have installed an Air-X 400 wind turbine, at the top of a 100 foot tree, towering over the canopy, close to the tree house

The turbine is capable of supplying up to 400 watts, and we have installed it using two small 90 amp hour batteries, which provide power to each room.

Every building in the forest now has a 12 volt, 12 watt light, easily sufficient to light the room, without spoiling the whole natural jungle experience.

As music is not permitted in the forest, in order to protect the wildlife, power outlets are not provided.

Rosalie Forest Eco Lodge is owned and managed by Jem Winston, and is set in the heart of Rosalie Forest, Dominica, surrounded by 3 Rivers.
