Rosalie Forest Eco Lodge was the dream of Jem Winston, from the United Kingdom.

3 rivers eco lodge staff

It began with an overgrown banana plantation, and 3 Rivers Eco Lodge.

Work began on clearing the land, in preparation for building in January 2002. By the end of that year, 3 Rivers opened with one cottage. Eventually I decided to buy some of the rainforest at the back of 3 Rivers Eco Lodge, and established the Rosalie Forest Eco Lodge, in partnership with my other business 3 Rivers.

Today, The Forest Retreat, is a true back to nature experience, with a variety of cool and sustainable accommodations, in incredible natural surroundings, offering a range of activities for all, including our sustainable Living Education Centre. The idea was to create the ideal getaway, respecting the environment and working closely with the locals to create an ambience that is a mixture of cultures, where people on any budget can enjoy the natural wonders of Dominica, whilst minimizing the environmental impact and aiding the development of the local community. Together with an excellent team of local workers, Rosalie Forest Eco Lodge is now receiving a steadily growing flow of guests. I am also proud to have received various eco awards for our environmental work.

My name is Jem Winston, and I own and manage Rosalie Forest Eco Lodge. I first discovered Dominica in 1990, when I was backpacking the Caribbean, and fell in love with the place instantly. I dreamt that one day I would return and build a small hotel and campsite. In 2002, I returned to build first 3 Rivers and then Rosalie Forest. My aim was to create what I would have liked to find when I was on the road; a small and friendly place, surrounded by natural beauty, with friendly staff, where anyone, on any budget, would feel comfortable. I believe I have succeedded in my wish.

Hi, my name is Richard Newton, commonly know as Pirate, from the village of Petite Soufriere, and I am the site & maintenance manager here at the lodge. I have worked here from the very beginning, first at 3 Rivers, now at Rosalie Forest, and have been involved in every aspect of the project, including all of the building work. If it is broken, it will most probably be me that comes to fix it.
