Getting to Dominica

You can come to Dominica either by plane or by sea ferry.

Dominica’s only commercial airport is Douglas Charles, formerly known as Melville Hall (DOM), which is about an hour and 15 minutes drive from the lodge

Dominica is served by the following airlines

Liat (between most other islands, including Puerto Rico),

Winair (between most other islands,including the neighbouring FRENCH ISLANDS

Air Antilles Express (between Dominica and and the French West Indies)

Sunshine airways (between Dominica and Puerto Rico)

Seaborne / silever airways (between Dominica, San Juan Peurto rico and other islands)

WHICHEVER AIRLINE YOU CHOOSE, WE STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO CARRY
ESSENTIAL ITEMS IN YOUR HAND LUGGAGE.  IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR LUGGAGE TO ARRIVE A DAY OR TWO AFTER YOU !!

SEA FERRY

There are 2 ferry services linking Dominica with the neighbouring islands, L’Express des Iles (to Roseau Ferry Terminal), and they run about 5 days a week, linking St. Lucia, Guadeloupe and Martinique with Dominica. The other company is Val ferry
Their schedules are subject to regular change,

Whichever your port of entry, the journey time is around an hour, and expect to pay between EC$190 / US$75 and EC$ 220 / US$ 85 for your taxi, depending where you arrive.
Alternatively, there are buses, and hitchhiking works well enough.

LIAT’s luggage restrictions:

  • Checked Bags One bag 50 pounds or less
  • Carry on One item 15 pounds or less. As usual you may have your purse, laptop etc with you in addition to the carry on item.
  • Traveler will be charged US$60 for excess luggage which is not guaranteed to reach destination on day of travel. If luggage does not arrive on the same day of travel it will be placed on first flight the following day.
